Red Falcon

What’s the Starship’s Mage Reading Order?

Our team (which includes Glynn, the author!) gets a lot of questions about the Starship’s Mage reading order. Right now there are two different series in this universe, and each one has its own cast of main characters. How do you want to experience the universe: chronologically or by series?

The first book: Starship’s Mage

Above all, readers should start with Starship’s Mage, the first book in the main series, because it will introduce you to the main characters. Mage Damien Montgomery is the main character of the first book (and the main series). The side trilogy Red Falcon branches off from the main series by looking at what happens to characters like Captain David Rice and Officer Kelly LaMonte once Damien leaves the crew.

An older edition of the book was published under the name Starship’s Mage Omnibus. Originally, the stories of Damien Montgomery on the Blue Jay were published as five separate novellas.

Option A: Starship’s Mage reading order chronologically

Once you’re done the first book, you have a choice: if you want to read the Starship’s Mage and Red Falcon novels in the order the events occur, you can follow the visual timeline to the left. (The alt text is optimized for screen readers.) Below, you can find links to each of the books.

25th century timeline

2454: Starship’s Mage (Main Series #1)
2455, September: Interstellar Mage (Red Falcon #1)
2456, March-April: Mage-Provocateur (Red Falcon #2)
2457, September: Hand of Mars (Main Series #2)
2457, October-December: Agents of Mars (Red Falcon #3)
2458, March: Voice of Mars (Main Series #3)
2458, June: Alien Arcana (Main Series #4)
2458, September: Judgment of Mars (Main Series #5)
2460, March: UnArcana Stars (Main Series #6)
2460, April-June: Sword of Mars (Main Series #7)
2460, July-August: Mountain of Mars (Main series #8)
(Timeline updates coming soon)

Option B: Starship’s Mage reading order by publication order

Your next option is to read the Starship’s Mage books according to publication order. This option for the Starship’s Mage reading order lets you read all of the books in the main series first, and then you can go back and read the Red Falcon books to take a look behind the scenes to prepare you for the UnArcana War arc.

  • Starship’s Mage Series
    • Starship’s Mage
    • Hand of Mars
    • Voice of Mars
    • Alien Arcana
    • Judgment of Mars
  • Red Falcon Trilogy

Agents of Mars, the final book in the Red Falcon trilogy, is Available Now!

Agents of Mars wraps up the epic science fantasy adventure of the Red Falcon, set in the Starship’s Mage universe. You can now buy the book on Amazon.

For all of you who love the audiobooks, the Agents of Mars is currently in production and we expect it to be available soon.

An enemy hidden in the shadows
A crack in the armor of secrecy
One chance to find an answer

Captain David Rice and the crew of Red Falcon have spent two years infiltrating the arms smuggling underworld of the Protectorate of the Mage-King of Mars. When the co-opted rebellion on Ardennes reveals a supply chain of weapons intended to fight Mars, this makes them the perfect team to investigate.

His new mission brings him across old friends and old enemies alike, but as his suspects start turning up dead, David realizes he isn’t the only one following the loose ends.

As shadowy enemies move to position themselves for civil war, Red Falcon’s crew must chase an ever-shrinking set of clues. If they succeed, they might just buy the Protectorate peace for their lifetime.

But if they fail…

Mage-Provocateur, Book 2 in the Starship’s Mage: Red Falcon series, is Now Available!

Mage-Provocateur, Book 2 in the Starship’s Mage: Red Falcon Series, is now available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

Check out the blurb for this spy ship’s new space adventure:

Vengeance hunts them.
Rebellion seeks them.
Loyalty commands them.
The shadows will fear them.

Captain David Rice and Mage Maria Soprano have made their choice, signing up with the Martian Interstellar Security Agency and converting Red Falcon into a covert operations ship for the Protectorate.

Their new duties drag them back into the very underworld they once strove to escape, intentionally provoking the Azure Legacy into a renewed conflict. They find unexpected allies with secret agents from Legatus’s rebellion against Mars as they seek to stop Mikhail Azure’s Blue Star Syndicate from being reborn.

The Azure Legacy wants revenge. Legatus wants blood. David and Maria are bound by the overriding duty of all officers of the Mage-King’s Protectorate:

Protect the innocent.

Top Reader Questions for Glynn Stewart, answered!

In reverse order, here are your top reader questions for Glynn Stewart answered ahead of 2018:

Question Four: More Vigilante?

Q. The Vigilante Duology seems to end with a setup for future books. Are there future books planned?

A. It’s certainly possible that there will be more books. Glynn and Terry Mixon have spoken about the possibility of sequel(s) for the Vigilante Duology but no agreements have been reached yet.

Question Three: ONSET Audiobooks

Q. I am listening to the first book in the ONSET series, To Serve and Protect, on Audible. It is fantastic! I am curious whether Books 2-4 will be released to Audible as well?

A. All of the ONSET series books are contracted with Podium Publishing. Unfortunately, the schedule for subsequent books hasn’t been determined yet. We are hoping that books 2-4 will come out soon.

Question Two: A sequel to City in the Sky?

Q. I was wondering if you had any plans for a sequel to City in the Sky?

A. A lot of readers have asked if there will be sequel to City in the Sky. Erik Tarverro’s story was written so that it could either stand alone or set up a series. It was one of the first fantasy books Glynn released, and he was testing to see if continuing the story would be viable. However, compared to Glynn’s science fiction books and newer fantasy series, it wasn’t as successful and there probably won’t be a sequel to City in the Sky.

While the narrative leaves the possibility for a sequel open, and we love that the book has dedicated fans, Glynn would likely start a new fantasy universe rather than returning to his older two standalone fantasy works (City in the Sky as well as Children of Prophecy).

Top Reader Question! The Return of Damien Montgomery

Q. Are we going to see any more Starship’s Mage books with Damien Montgomery in them or is he done? It would seem there are plenty of issues in his life that need [to be] resolved. As far as I can see, the 2018 releases just are about Captain Rice.

A. This is our most-asked question, and the answer is yes! There will be two more books in the Starship’s Mage: Red Falcon side trilogy, which follows the cargo ship Captain David Rice finds himself in possession of after the first Starship’s Mage book:

  • Interstellar Mage
  • Mage Provocateur (coming March 2018)
  • Agent of Mars (coming September 2018)

In late 2018, the Unarcana Rebellions series will kick off, with an ensemble cast that includes Damien Montgomery as a major POV character. The first title of this series in Unarcana Stars, coming December 2018. You can also check out the full 2018 catalog at faolanspen.com.

Interstellar Mage is out now!
